Visiting Mateminco

This post is a part of a series of posts where I attempted to visit five flashlight factories in China over three days.

I visited Wuben on the first day, and I attempted to visit Olight and Mateminco on the second day (Thursday the 11th of May, 2023).

Getting to Mateminco

Monica kindly organised a car to pick me up from the Olight factory and take me to Mateminco in Dongguan.

I jumped in the car and tried to chat with the driver in Mandarin. He was quite friendly.

We soon became stuck in a traffic jam and it was then that I realised that I had seriously underestimated how long it would take to get to Mateminco.

An app said that it might take an hour to get there. I was messaging Neal and he thought that it would take an hour and twenty minutes.

After about an hour I lost phone reception because my phone could not roam on some of the mobile networks in Dongguan. Luckily I had loaded a map via WeChat and it was able to use the GPS without mobile data. I was just a few kilometres away!

Mateminco

I was greeted warmly by the boss of Mateminco and Neal as the car arrived at Mateminco. I later realised that Neal had travelled all the way from Guangzhou to show me around Dongguan and Shenzhen!

We walked upstairs to the office where they had kindly prepared food and tea.

Visiting Mateminco

I was given the opportunity to try multiple Mateminco torches.

For example:

I may earn a commission if you use an affiliate link or a promo code. This will help fund future torch reviews and tutorials.

After trying out multiple torches I asked how they test lights.

We walked downstairs and into a room with a massive integrating sphere!

Visiting Mateminco

The boss demonstrated how the sphere is used with a powerful torch and then we headed outside for dinner.

Dinner

We got into two cars and drove to a massive restaurant for dinner. There were heaps of big round tables and we had multiple dishes with lots of yummy food!

After dinner, the boss drove Neal and I to a train station where we took two trains and a taxi to a hotel near the Acebeam headquarters.

Thank you

Thank you Mateminco for being welcoming and Neal for showing me around! It was a memorable experience. Apologies for being so late. If I were to visit again, I would not try to visit two factories in one day but instead visit at most one factory per day.
